Series of original concerts of Ukrainian composers "Contemporary and timeless"

Dom Master Klas is hosting the cycle of lectures-concerts "Reasonable and Sensual in Ukrainian Music", curated by Oleksiy Shmurak. Oleksiy Shmurak is an outstanding pianist, composer, and tireless music researcher.

The third event from the cycle is Quartet Discoveries: Oleksiy Shmurak's lecture and NotaBene String Quartet concert.

The programme will feature the following pieces:

- Boris Yanovsky — String Quartet (1924)
- Pavlo Senytsia — String Quartet No. 2 in B major, Op. 23 No. 4 (1926)
- Maksym Shalygin — Songs, prayers and madrigals (2014)

The string quartet is considered the most intellectual genre in classical music since the second half of the 18th century. Some of the greatest composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Smetana, Janacek, Sibelius, Berg, Lachenmann, Förnigau, Sylvesterov, and others have written and are still writing for the string quartet with incredible expressive subtlety, emotional reactivity, and rational calculation. This event will showcase little-known compositions from the Ukrainian quartet repertoire.

As part of Oleksiy Shmurak's curatorial program "Reasonable and Sensual in Ukrainian Music", there will be a lecture and a concert featuring the works of two Ukrainian modernists, the bright and "Western European" in language Borys Yanovsky and the eccentric and expressionist Pavlo Senitsa. The program will also include contemporary composer Maksym Shalygin, who has been living and working in Holland for over 10 years. Shalygin's music combines emotionality, intellectuality, and frankness.

The performers for this event are the NotaBene String Quartet from the NotaBene Chamber group. Their repertoire policy is an informed performance approach and political and historical responsibility in the selection of works.

The ticket price is UAH 200. Tickets can be purchased at the reserve box office or
online.
