The author of the idea, conductor Mykola Hobdych, tells about the idea of the concert:
"Myroslav Skoryk was mysterious during his life and became even more mysterious after his death. At the age of 9, the Bolshevik regime deported the entire family to Siberian camps for 8 long years, until Stalin's death. At the age of 17, he entered the Lviv Conservatory in the composition class of Lyudkevych, and 9 years later he completed postgraduate studies in Moscow with Kabalevsky.Immediately (1965) he wrote, "Hutsul Triptych", and later "Carpathian Concert" (1972), which remain iconic to this day. In the future, Skoryk combines the aesthetics of the "new folk wave" with jazz, pop music, the opera "Moses" (commissioned by the Pope), transcriptions of Paganini's caprices, a cello concerto, etc.Skoryk approached the choral genre cautiously, timidly. The list includes "Spiritual Concert" (1998), Liturgy (2005), Psalms (2003), a series of miniatures "Seasons" and one carol. Rarely performed works (usually premieres) did not gain popularity, such as orchestral music. While preparing the program for M. Skoryk's 85th birthday, we decided to fulfill the cherished wish of the composer, who wanted to hear his Concert at the celebration of his 80th birthday in Poland. "Spiritual concert" is a Requiem, or Parastas, as the author said. The form of the concert gave the composer freedom in constructing the drama while using all the canonical texts. The psalms were written especially for the "Zolotoverkhy Kyiv" choir-fest, where his famous "Melody" was performed for the first time in translation for an a cappella choir. Later, the author noted that Melody sounds completely different when performed by voices, much more insightful. At the concert in Sofia Kyivska, you will be able to get to know M. Skoryk, who is still unknown, and enjoy high music."
On February 1 at 6:00 p.m., the concert will be performed in St. Sophia Cathedral. This is an additional concert at the request of the listeners.
